      "On Target Application with Superior Drift Control"

The Accu-Flo™ Nozzle
The Accu-Flo™ Radial Nozzle is a uniquely designed spray nozzle for helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft. This lightweight, versatile nozzle produces the highest percentage of uniform size droplets. The Accu-Flo™ nozzle can be used for most applications. It provides consistent, dependable, accurate drift control when operated within suggested pressure ranges and airspeed as well as in conjunction with the basic rules of drift loss management.

The Accu-Flo™ Radial Nozzle is durable, lasting four or more years under normal use conditions. It is impervious to all commonly used chemical formulations. It is also versatile enough to be used with airfoil booms on fixed-wing aircraft, conventional helicopter systems, the TVB Thru Valve Boom, and the Microfoil® boom.

Its simplicity of design and structure allows the applicator to change or replace all the boom’s nozzles in a matter of 20 to 30 minutes by simply screwing the nozzle caps on and off. The nozzles are easily cleaned and nearly maintenance free.

Accu-Flo™ Radial Nozzles are capable of satisfying nearly any required volume.  A nozzle size and style can be selected to meet the needs of almost any application, then calibrated using the system pressure and speed of the aircraft.  Restrictors are available to make each nozzle even more versatile.

Accu-Flo™ Nozzle Sizes are listed below with the most common applications for each.

.016, 76 Tube - Highest Coverage
.020, 40 Tube - Specialty/Forestry
.020, 48 Tube - Specialty/Forestry
.020, 64 Tube - High Coverage
.028, 32 Tube - Low Volume
.028, 64 Tube - Forestry/Site Prep
.047, 16 Tube - Right-of-Way
.047, 24 Tube - Right-of-Way
.063, 16 Tube - Right-of-Way
.085, 16 Tube - High Volume

Droplet Micron Size is determined by the specific nozzle used first and foremost. In general, the larger the orifice tube, the larger the micron size of the droplet produced. The second factor in determining droplet size is the aircraft speed.

The range of micron sizes produced by each nozzle are listed below as tested by Helicopter at speeds of 30 to 40 MPH
(Fixed wing speeds of 125 to 135 MPH will produce a micron size approximately half of the sizes listed below.)

Nozzle Orifice Size = Range in Micron Size
        .016 = 500-700
        .020 = 600-800
        .028 = 800-1000
        .047 = 1400-1500
        .063 = 2500-3000
        .085 = 4000-4500

FLIGHT TECHNIQUES

A. Peripheral and downwind borders require lower and slower aircraft speeds. Don’t forget to recalibrate.

B. At the end of each spray pass, cut off early so as to contain the spray in the field. After cut off, straight flight for 2-3 seconds is the only “maneuver” permitted.

AERIAL APPLICATION FORMULAS

Ac/Min = MPH X SW X 0.0020202
Ac/Swath Run = Field Length(ft) X Swath width(ft) / 43,560
GPA = GPM X 495 / MPH X SW(ft)
GPM = GPA X MPH X SW(ft) / 495
GPM/noz = GPA X MPH X SW(ft) / # of nozzles X 495

Km/h = MPH X 1.6093
MPH = Km/h X 0.6213
L/ha = GPA X 9.35
GPA = L/ha X .1069

CONCLUSION

All technical information provided is based on years of practical experience and many thousands of acres sprayed. However, knowing is not sufficient. Doing is the bottom line. Aerial application of pesticides is a demanding business, which requires dedication as well as technical expertise. But we have made great strides in drift control. “On target” application is a reality right now.
